Welcome To Go See Black History

Updated: Aug 22, 2022

I’m so glad you’re here!

When I decided to create this site, I had two goals in mind

  1. Encourage people to visit Black historical sites

  2. Make those sites easy to find.

That is definitely the foundation of what this site is built on, but I want it to be so much more. I want it to be a community where we…

  • honor the accomplishments of Black heroes of the past

  • Celebrate the current impact Black people are making in education, the arts, science, politics, etc.

  • Feature organizations committed to positively impacting Black individuals & communities

  • Maintain a positive atmosphere and welcome everyone who wants to be here

You Are Welcome Here

Just to be clear, this site is for all people. Black history is a sensitive topic for just about everyone, but I’m guessing the majority of us could use some education on the subject.

I hope this site will be a safe space for all of us to gain knowledge, understanding, appreciation, and a sense of hope.

We can’t run from America’s past, just like we can’t run from our own individual past. You can try, but it will chase you down eventually.

We are neither responsible for the sins of our ancestors nor is it our job to carry the pain that was inflicted upon them. But we are responsible for acknowledging the sin and pain and righting the wrongs that exist today.

Fortunately, this site will open your eyes to so much more than history’s ugly parts because even under the worst circumstances, Black people did and continue to do amazing things.

Now What?

Hopefully you feel welcomed, and are at least a little intrigued by what you'll discover here. I personally wanted a go-to place for all the reasons mentioned above, and I believe there are many others out there just like me… at least I hope so.

Let me know in the comments what part of this site will be helpful to you, then click here to find your next Black History Place to visit.

About Me

Hi, I'm Dana, and I'm on a journey to learn the history I never learned while growing up in the USA.  It's a history of a people group that never got honored for helping to build the most powerful nation in the world.  You're invited to join me as I "Go See Black History" and study this amazing American story of tragedy to triumph.
